I was able to resolve this. In my Mail ACL, I had the specific, external DMZ server in the ACL as I thought it should be: A server with manager access and delete rights. However, I found that if I changed the username in the ACL to */Domain, I was able to access my mail file. Then, I changed it from */Domain to Server/Domain with the user type of "Unspecified", Manager access, delete privileges.
I am finally at the point where I can start configuring devices, now that the server in the DMZ is able to access the mail files.
